21 October 2011 - Verishca Heyns:

Hi Koot

Just a quick word of thanks for the excellent service received from Golden Carriage with my daughter’s matric dance at Summer Place on Friday.  You made this an unforgettable experience for her and we really appreciate the positive manner in which you dealt with us.   Colin and his team were there well ahead of time and had everything set-up and ready for us when we arrived.  The horses are beautiful,  well trained and  well-behaved and the and Cinderella Carriage is really magnificent.  Your staff were extremely friendly,  helpful and flexible.  It  made this a fairy-tale evening which they will remember for the rest of their lives.

I attach a few pictures taken of the function.

Kind regards

Thys Heyns

5 August 2011 - Jacaranda Good Morning Angels Matric Farewell :

Hi Koot en Sone

Hiermee wil ons as ouers net baie dankie sê vir julle bereidwilligheid om te help met die vervoer van die kinders se matriek afskeid.

Dit was regtig awesome. Vir ons en vir hulle. Dit was ‘n geleentheid wat hulle nooit sal vergeet nie en het beide kinders in trane gehad.

Aangeheg is ‘n spesiale dankie van die kinders af en ook ‘n paar foto’s.

Thank You for the thoughtful gift,
Some people have such special ways,
A kind of magic touch,
They always do the nicest things,
That means so very much,
And your gift was much appreciated,
More than these words can say,
So there's a world of special meaning,
In the thanks this brings your way!

Weereens, baie baie dankie.

Groete

Maria en Bertus Naude

30 October 2011 - Mr & Mrs Mankge

Dear Koot,

Thank you for your response.

Your apology is accepted about the open-top. I understand it is easy to forget about simple things like canopy when confronted with very important things like safety. Myself and my wife are pleased to say that you and your team have kept us very safe even on that very steep hill, and dangerous path. I agree, that hill was the most challenge. I have witnessed some trucks battling, with their breaks failing in the past. We are very grateful of the fact that your horse carriage never failed us with its very special breaking system! You have handled it so well!

With or without canopy, we are pleased to say that we enjoyed everything about your horse ride. It's is indeed a Golden Carriage, and we enjoyed the golden treatment in your hands.

Thanks once more about the face book pictures. It's a wow!

Much appreciated and keep it up!

Mr & Mrs Mankge

About Us PDF Print E-mail

How it all began?

Koot, the founder of Golden Carriages, grew up in Hartswater in the Northern Cape.  His father had horses all his life.  The love for horses was part of their family's daily lives.  Riding the horses at the river side, driving carriages with his father on afternoons and just living between them when the stables had to be cleaned - that was the life on the farm, but also the seeds sowed into Golden Carriages.

For several years Koot's dad did weddings for people in the Northern Cape area with the horses and carriages.  In 2003 his father passed away, leaving him a heritage of horses and carriages.  At the end of that year (2003) Koot started Golden Carriages as a horse and carriage services in Gauteng. Eversince this dream grew bigger and bigger, making his dad proud as the horses and carriages are living on in South Africa.

Today we can proudly assume that our horses have the most photos taken from and are part of the beautiful wedding albums of many couples.

This is a photo of our first Gauteng Wedding at Leopard's Lodge.

About Us - 2006 PDF Print E-mail

Expanding in 2007

In 2007 Koot partnered up with Alwyn.  The two of them are animal lovers.  Alwyn came from a cattle background and is one of the few individuals in South Africa to be able to drive an oxwagon with his own span of oxen.  This serves for great entertainment at shows and festivals.  Alwyn entertained the public for a few years at the Voortrekkermonument.

Koot and Alwyn have built up Golden Carriages to a well-known brand in the wedding and matric farewell industry.  Weekends have become the time of the week that they have to work hard to ensure the horses and carriages performed well and professional at somebody's wedding or other occasion.

From 2011 you will see more carriages in our fleet of carriages.  We hope to entertain people with a selection of carriages and even horses.  But more about that when we are finished with it.

How do we operate?

We go out to your venue with our carriage and horses. The carriage gets transported on a trailer and the horses in a horsebox.  We normally arrive 2 hours before the time at the pickup point.  It is not recommended to drive further than 7 km with the horses and carriage.  After the horses are harnassed we then wait for the bride to arrive.  You may allow roughly 20 - 30 minutes for the trip to the chapel/church.

You may take as many photos as you like. We wait for the wedding ceremony to finish, from where we drive the bride and groom to the place where they want to take photos. After the photo session we take them for a last drive before we drop them at the reception.

We are open for any request you may have around the horses.  Our horses are well trained and are doing weddings and other events from 2001 now.

Give us a call or drop us an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you need to know more about our services.
